My next t-shirt...
I seriously love this -- but where's the black female version? Black women are killed by the police, too. Doesn't everyone know who Eleanor Bumpurs is? Don't get it twisted. The police shoot black people. Period. Yes, they shoot black children. And they get away with it.
Get your t-shirt here. You're welcome.

Quote of the Day -- from Stokely Carmichael
"I maintain that every civil rights bill in this country was
passed for white people, not for black people. (applause) For example, I
am black. I know that. I also know that while I am black I am a human
being, and therefore I have the right to go into any public place. White
people didn’t know that. Every time I tried to go into a place they
stopped me. So some boys had to write a bill to tell that white man,
‘He’s a human being; don’t stop him.’ That bill was for that white man,
not for me. I knew it all the time. (applause, cheers) I knew it all the
time.
I knew that I could vote and that that wasn’t a privilege; it was my right. Every time I tried I was shot, killed or jailed, beaten or economically deprived. So somebody had to write a bill for white people to tell them, ‘When a black man comes to vote, don’t bother him.’ That bill, again, was for white people, not for black people.
So that when you talk about open occupancy, I know I can live anyplace I want to live. It is white people across this country who are incapable of allowing me to live where I want to live. You need a civil rights bill, not me. I know I can live where I want to live.”

Your "Must Read" MLK Posts of the Day
In the past few years, I've written quite a bit about Martin Luther King, Jr. Instead of writing more stuff this year, I'm posting the top five. Enjoy!
Oh -- and that snapshot above is Dr. King playing pool in Chicago with local civil rights leader Al Raby. I love how well-dressed everyone is. Even in this casual, relaxed atmosphere, most of them are wearing hats.
- The Dr. King Interview You (Probably) Haven't Seen -- This is MLK on The Mike Douglas Show. (I know, right?) The tension is so thick with the interviewer and his guest (virtual unknowns now), you can feel it coming at you through your laptop.
- The Dr. King You (Probably) Don't Know -- This is the completely unsanitized MLK. And yes, he sounds a lot like Malcolm X.
- "Martin Luther King Jr Day" and Me -- Yet another rant about the state of things as they are.
- Telling It Like It Is -- White entitlement, anyone?
- Where Are Our Black Leaders? -- They were murdered by the FBI, the state and local police, and of course, homegrown terrorists like the KKK. This features a video clip of the young, brilliant revolutionary/undergrad, Fred Hampton.
